Presentation

Moxquin D Sterile Eye Drops: Each ml Eye Drop contains Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride USP equivalent to Moxifloxacin 5 mg & Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate BP equivalent to Dexamethasone Phosphate 1 mg

Description

Moxifloxacin is a 4th generation fluoroquinolone controls infection by inhibiting DNA gyrase and

topoisomerase IV. Dexamethasone is a potent corticosteroid inhibits phospholipase A2 enzyme and thus inhibits inflammatory mediators synthesis and controls inflammation.

Indications

Treatment of ocular infections caused by susceptible microorganisms and prevention of inflammation and bacterial infection that may occur after ocular surgery

Dosage & Administration

Prevention of Post-Surgery Ocular Inflammation and Infection: Instill 1 drop, 4 times/day in the eye to be operated, starting 1 day before the surgery and during 15 days after the surgery.
Treatment of Ocular Infections Caused by Susceptible Organisms: Instill 1 drop 4 times/day during 7 days, or as directed by the doctor.
Patients Submitted to Cataract Surgery: Instil the solution immediately after the surgery.
Patients Submitted to Refractive Surgery by LASIK: Instill the solution within 15 min after the surgery.

Side Effects

Moxifloxacin: Decrease in visual acuity, dry eye, keratitis, ocular discomfort, hyperemia, pain, Subconjunctival hemorrhage and tearing.
Dexamethasone: Visual acuity & field defects, cataract formation, secondary ocular infection following suppression of host response & perforation of the globe

Precautions

1. For ophthalmic use only
2. Solution should not be injected under the conjunctiva, nor introduced directly into the anterior chamber of the eye
3. Prolonged use of steroids may result in ocular hypertension

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation

Use in pregnancy: There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Moxifloxacin & Dexamethasone combination eye drops should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Use in lactation: Caution is advised when Moxifloxacin & Dexamethasone combination eye drops is given to nursing women.
Pediatric use
The efficacy and safety of Moxifloxacin & Dexamethasone combination eye drops in pediatric patients have not been established.
Use in elderly
No change in dosage is required when the product is administered in elderly patients

Drug Interaction

Drug-drug interaction studies have not been conducted with Moxifloxacin & Dexamethasone combination eye drops

Over Dose

In case of excessive instillation in the eye, rinse with sufficient warm water. Do not instill the product again until the time of the next dose.

Storage

Do not store above 30o C. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not use more than 4 weeks after opening.
