Avipef : Each ml solution contains Pefloxacin BP 100 mg.
Pefloxacin belongs to the 3rd generation of fluroquinolones antibiotic that inhibits the activity of DNA-gyrase enzyme which leads killing bacteria through stopping DNA replication and transcription. It is a dependable bactricidala and mycoplasmicidal. It has synergistic action with aminoglycosides and beta-lactamase.
Pefloxacin is a broad spectrum antibacterial with wide range of activity against Gram - Positive, Gram-Negative bacteria, mixed infections caused by two or more types of organisms and multi-drug resistant bacteria causing gastrointestinal infections, bone and joint infections and severe systamic infections, skin and tissue infections, Colisepticaemia, CRD, Pasteurellosis, infectious Coryza, Salmonellosis, Staphylococcal infections and secondary bacterial infections due to viral diseases.
For prevention: 1 ml/4-8 litre of drinking water or 10 mg/kg body weight for 3-5 days
For treatment: 1 ml/2 litre of drinking water or 20 mg/kg body weight for 3-5 days
For fish & Shrimp: 2.5-5 mg/kg body weight for 3-7 days.

Pefloxacin is well tolerated at recommended dose. However, damage of joint cartilage may occur during the growing period when medication is continued for prolong time.
After the end of treatment, the watering system should be cleaned appropriately to prevent the intake of remaining sub-therapeutic doses of the drug, which may lead to resistance.
Should not be uses in layer within 14 days of coming into lay.
Pefloxacin absorption is influenced by antacid containing Aluminium or Magnesium hydroxide.
In cases of significant overdose, transient reduction of mobility and cramps may occur.
