Flutavir 75 capsule: Each capsule contains Oseltamivir Phosphate INN 98.53 mg equivalent to Oseltamivir 75 mg.
Oseltamivir is an ethyl ester prodrug requiring ester hydrolysis for conversion to the active form, Oseltamivir carboxylate. The proposed mechanism of action of Oseltamivir is via inhibition of influenza virus neuraminidase with the possibility of alteration of virus particle aggregation and release.
Treatment of Influenza: Oseltamivir is indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated acute illness due to influenza infection in patients older than 1 year of age who have been symptomatic for no more than 2 days.
Prophylaxis of Influenza: Oseltamivir is indicated for the prophylaxis of influenza in adult patients and adolescents 13 years and older.
Oseltamivir may be taken with or without food. However, when taken with food, tolerability may be enhanced in some patients.
Generally Oseltamivir is well tolerated. However, a few side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bronchitis, abdominal pain, dizziness, headache, cough, insomnia, vertigo and fatigue may occur. Rarely bloody nose, stomach pain may be seen.
Oseltamivir should take orally as soon as possible (within 2 days) of having flu symptoms because if taken within 2 days of having flu symptoms Oseltamivir works best. Oseltamivir should be taken for at least 5-7 days Should not stop taking Oseltamivir too soon otherwise symptoms may return.
There is no adequate and well controlled studies in pregnant women, Oseltamivir should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is not known whether Oseltamivir or Oseltamivir carboxylate are excreted in the milk.
No clinically drug interactions have been reported.
At present there has been no experience of over dose. Single dose of up to 1000 mg of Oseltamivir have been associated with nausea and/or vomiting.
